Excel Public Charter School (EPCS), joined the Green Dot Washington network in July, 2017. Excel opened its doors to the Kent community as a standalone charter school in 2015 with a focus on a STEAM academic program and will serve grades 7-10 for the 2018-19 school year. We are seeking a mission-driven Parent & Community Engagement Coordinator to join the team at Excel Public Charter School. Our ideal candidate is hard-working, entrepreneurial, and possesses a strong desire to engage families and community partners in the school community. The Parent & Community Engagement Coordinator is a vital member of the School Operations Team and will educate and engage parents, families, and community members as well as serve as a liaison between the school and families and the community.



Student Enrollment and Lottery:

  • Serve as school lead for recruiting new students and executing a successful student recruitment strategy.
    • Contribute to creation of a student recruitment plan at start of school year
    • Lead in tabling events, community outreach, and prospective family cultivation
  • Serve as relationship manager with community leaders and organizations
  • Coordinate key elements of the Student Enrollment cycle:
    • Provide recurring enrollment updates to Home Office and school administrator.
    • Conduct open houses and school tours for prospective and interested families
    • Support Director of School Operations in updating student enrollment database.


Parent & Community Engagement:

  • Set parent engagement plan and goals and review metrics monthly to assess progress
  • Connect families to community supports and services
  • Plan, communicate, and execute at least three engaging programs per semester.
  • Attend community events and build relationships with existing and new community partners.
  • Plan monthly Parent Academy programming based on parent feedback and community needs
  • Coordinate and manage parent facing communications (website, social media, newsletters)
  • Recruit parents for the School Advisory Committees and support in the planning and facilitation of the School Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Organize parent volunteer initiatives and ensure program compliance


Team Engagement:

  • Participate in Green Dot and individual professional development programs.
  • Participate in other events aimed at promoting or developing Green Dot and its schools.



  • Support operational tasks, such as coordinating annual lunch applications, ensuring fire code compliance, and front desk coverage
  • Support financial tasks, such as contributing to annual budgeting process for family initiatives
  • Support school-wide supervision duties including lunchroom coverage and front desk coverage, as needed
  • Translate spoken and written materials, as needed



  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (strongly preferred)
  • Bilingual in both oral and written Spanish (strongly desired)
  • Commitment to the mission of Green Dot Public Schools
  • Experience leading and developing positive working relationships with parents and community organizations
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences (i.e. students, parents, community-based organizations)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) and Google (Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Presentation)
  • Has strong organizational ability and enjoys juggling multiple priorities
  • Is able to set, plan, and accomplish goals through obstacles
  • Shows consistent follow through on communications with key stakeholders (parents, administration, community organizations, etc.)
  • Demonstrates flexibility and nimbleness when priorities change
  • Is capable of working independently and as part of a team
