Rainier Valley Leadership Academy High School (RVLAHS), located in Seattle’s thriving Columbia City neighborhood is the fourth school in the Green Dot Washington network and will open its doors to a founding class of 9th grade students in August, 2018 and expand to include 10-12th graders over the next 3 school years. Rainier Valley Leadership Academy High School seeks a results-driven founding School Operations Manager (SOM) with a strong background in operations management and continuous improvement.  The SOM is a key member of the school leadership team and manages all non-instructional school functions, allowing other leadership team members (Principal, Assistant Principal, etc.) the ability to focus on classroom instruction

The SOM reports to the School Principal.


Director of School Operations responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Leadership & Team Management: Founding member of RVLA HS leadership team. Works with the school Principal and administrative staff to create and maintain an exceptional organizational culture by building strong relationships, finding solutions to problems, and holding others accountable to systems. Collaborates with the broader Green Dot operations staff, including other School Operations Managers, to drive operational best practices across the region.
  • Finance and Purchasing: Oversees procurement and purchasing for the school including placing orders, inventorying items received and handling returns/exchanges. Manages cash receipts, deposits, credit card reconciliations, and staff expense reimbursements. Submits bi-weekly payroll and oversees time tracking for hourly staff and substitute teachers. Coordinates with Green Dot’s Finance & Accounting Team to ensure adherence to financial policies; provides assistance to the Principal with budget management by tracking monthly operational expenses.
  • Student Information and Reporting: Manages the student information system and attendance reporting and intervention process; coordinates with Green Dot’s Knowledge Management Team with regards to data audits and reporting; ensures confidentiality and security of files and all information pertaining to students, parents, staff, and community
  • Student Transportation: Coordinates the school’s transportation services to ensure eligible students receive transportation in a safe, reliable, and cost-efficient manner. Maintains accurate transportation records including bus stop locations, transit pass logs, and student ridership counts. Communicates all changes to routes, pickup locations, pickup times, or dismissal times to the transportation provider and to students and their families in a timely manner. Ensures that all transportation issues and complaints documented and communicated to the designated administrator and parent concerns are resolved as soon as possible. Manages field trip and after-school transportation logistics.
  • School Nutrition Program: Supports with oversight of School Nutrition Program, including the distribution and collection of free and reduced lunch forms, coordination of the income verification process, and accurate data input of students’ meal eligibility into the student information system.
  • State & Federal Compliance: Ensures compliance requirements are completed on time and monthly student data is accurate.
  • Facilities: Coordinates routine maintenance requests for school in Green Dot’s work order system, ensuring maintenance and janitorial services are properly carried out. Supports upkeep of the school’s facilities.
  • Student Enrollment and Lottery: Manages enrollment process at the school and oversees enrollment database with support from Green Dot’s Operations Team, including student recruitment, lottery and waitlist management.  Conducts parent enrollment orientations and ensures parents receive key information about the school prior to enrolling students.  
  • Student Health and Safety: Manages school safety processes and compliance, including administering trainings, coordinating drills, conducting safety audits and partnering with the principal to respond to emergencies. Oversees student health requirements and liaises with contracted nurse to ensure student health needs are met.
  • Event Planning & Coordination: Plans and coordinates logistics for school events and activities as needed, including back to school nights and parent conferences/meetings. Acts as point of contact special events hosted at the school. Oversees other tasks or special projects as needed.



  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required
  • 2+ years of professional experience; four years preferred with at least one year experience managing others or multiple large scale projects
  • A demonstrated passion for improving K-12 public education; prior experience working with underserved communities, families and/or students preferred
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic with an entrepreneurial spirit; willingness to do whatever it takes to meet goals and get the job done
  • Strong analytical and project management skills, with a deep attention to detail coupled with the ability to think critically, problem-solve complex questions, and identify solutions
  • Demonstrated initiative, leadership and tenacity with a desire to grow as a professional
  • Humility, sense of humor, and rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook; proven aptitude in learning new computer programs.
