Rainier Prep is seeking a Development Director who wants to be part of creating an excellent school that delivers radically different results for students who have the most obstacles to a college degree. This is a part-time position (20 hours/week), requiring a self-motivated, collaborative professional with experience developing and executing fundraising plans.

Rainier Prep is a rigorous college preparatory public 5th – 8th grade school located in Seattle, WA. Committed to transforming the future one child at a time, and to ensuring all students excel at four-year colleges and serve as leaders in their communities, Rainier Prep believes in the inherent capacity of all students to succeed in a college prep environment when provided with the right support.

Rainier Prep is committed to achieving radically different outcomes for traditionally underrepresented low income and minority populations, and focused on identifying and serving those students who will be the first in their families to attend and graduate from college.

Approved as one of Washington State’s first charter schools and created by community input, Rainier Prep opened its doors in the fall of 2015. Rainier Prep’s outstanding faculty and staff are transforming the expected educational outcomes for low-income students, students of color and immigrant students, and are committed to college readiness and leadership opportunities for each of our scholars.

Major Responsibilities
This position will be the lead on fundraising and external communication to ensure that Rainier Prep is able to deliver on our mission of college success and leadership opportunities for every student. All staff at Rainier Prep are team members and contribute to the creation, modeling and sustaining a culture of: high expectations, rigorous learning, curiosity, hard work, support and family engagement.

In conjunction with Rainier staff and board members:

  • Develop, manage, and execute Rainier Prep’s annual fundraising plan
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors
  • Refine donor database for easy upkeep and maintenance
  • Create and execute a strategy for a sustained base of annual donors
  • Oversee organization of special events
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Build positive relationships with board members and support them to build their fundraising capacity.
  • Ensure that donors experience timely follow up
  • Support staff and community members in soliciting and securing grants for specific staff needs.



  • Format, write and send monthly newsletter to donors and supporters.
  • Create high quality printed materials for visitors, supporters, and donors.
  • Develop communications plan and engage staff and board in executing positive public relations campaign to increase Rainier Prep name and brand recognition.
  • Work with operations staff on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and website alignment with brand identity.

  • Commit to the vision and mission of Rainier Prep.
  • Spend time on campus getting to know the work so that you can tell the Rainier Prep story.


Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (BA)
  • Five-years experience in development and fundraising work
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial and communication skills


Salary is $30,000 - $45,000, depending on experience.
