ABOUT OUR SCHOOLS

Destiny Middle School (DMS) is Green Dot Washington’s flagship campus located in Tacoma’s vibrant Eastside neighborhood. Destiny first opened its doors in August 2015 with a founding class of 6th grade students. Since then, Destiny has grown by a grade level each year to now serve students in grades 6-8 for the 2018-19 school year.

Rainier Valley Leadership Academy Middle School (RVLAMS) is located in Seattle’s thriving Columbia City neighborhood. In 2014, the Seattle Advisory Team, a group of parents, educators, community members and stakeholders, came together to explore the possibility of bringing Green Dot’s model to the diverse Southeast Seattle community and RVLA opened its doors to a founding class of 6th grade students in August, 2017. RVLA will now serve grades 6-7 for the 2018-19 school year.

Rainier Valley Leadership Academy High School (RVLAHS), also located in Seattle’s thriving Columbia City neighborhood, is our 4th school in the Green Dot Washington network. Currently in its planning year, Rainier Valley Leadership Academy High School will open its doors to the founding class of 9th grade students in August, 2018.

Excel Public Charter School (EPCS), located in Kent, began as a stand-alone charter school in 2015. In the fall of 2017, Excel officially partnered with Green Dot Public Schools' Washington network of schools sharing the commitment to preparing all students for college, leadership and life. Excel focuses on a STEAM academic program and will serve grades 7-10 for the 2018-19 school year.

OPPORTUNITY:

We are seeking mission-driven Instructional Aides (IA) to join Green Dot Washington schools. Our ideal candidate is hard-working, entrepreneurial, and possesses a strong desire to foster high levels of academic achievement with academically underserved students. We are looking for team members who are passionate about middle and high school students and excited to become a member of a growing school community.

Green Dot IAs are committed to continuing their own learning and refining their practice to stay current in the field, ensuring a quality education for all.  IAs will participate in twice-weekly professional development and specialized cross-network professional development days; summer training; and various opportunities for professional development. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Discuss classroom learning activities with teacher/specialist to coordinate instructional efforts and to implement instructional programs.
  • Tutor or drill students, individually or in groups, following lesson plans in a variety of academic subjects to explain and/or reinforce learning concepts.
  • Provide assistance to students through translation and small group facilitation in their primary language.
  • Provide assistance to, participate with, or monitor students in activities such as physical exercises and/or classroom activities.
  • Correct such student work as printing, writing, spelling, punctuation, arithmetic exercises, etc., of classroom and/or homework assignments, computer, record scores and return to students.
  • Operate a variety of office machines and/or instructional equipment such as, copy machine, typewriter, computer, laminator, telephone, video cassette recorder, etc.
  • Perform a variety of classroom associated clerical work, such as typing, sorting , filing, keeping accurate records, setting up and maintaining file folders, recording attendance, and completing forms and applications.
  • Prepare various teaching aids and materials such as charts, graphs, and other related items using such methods as typing, duplicating, collating, stapling and laminating.
  • Assist in classroom organizing activities such as displaying educational materials, preparing bulletin boards, arranging furniture to facilitate instructional needs, creating an orderly and clean classroom environment.
  • Observe and report significant student behavior, behavioral patterns, and/or problems to the teacher/specialist. Implement behavior management programs for student(s) as designated by certificated staff.
  • Administer first aid or necessary physical assistance to ill or distressed students: may administer prescribed medication in accordance with established school procedure.
  • May call parents to arrange appointments, to provide approved information about school or student, at the direction or concurrence of the teacher/specialist.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
  • Assist with discipline of students in accordance with school policy.
  • Keep accurate records.
  • Demonstrate confidence, tact and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrate adaptability to changing circumstances and priorities within the learning environment.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively as an educational team member.
  • Abide by all state and federal mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect
  • Special projects and duties outside of primary teaching responsibility as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The equivalent of graduation from High School and one of the following:
    • Completion of at least two years of student (60 semester units or 90 quarter units) at an institution of higher education, or
      • Attainment of an Associate of Arts (or higher) degree

    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in verbal and written forums
    • Excellent intrapersonal skills
    • Any other combination or training of experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge or abilities may be considered, however, experience cannot substitute for the above educational requirements.

COMPENSATION:
