Frequently Asked Questions about membership

Frequently Asked Questions about membership

What is considered a Charter Starter?

This member type includes individuals and organizations that plan to submit an application to open a charter school or that want to learn more about the application development and submission process.

When can I sign up for coaching? How do I do it?

To sign up for coaching, contact Rekha Bhatt, WA Charters’ Director of School Services, at rekha@wacharters.org. Based on our assessment of your coaching needs, you will be matched with a WA Charters team member who can offer the highest level of support. Please note we cannot always accommodate coaching hours during certain high volume times of year.

What advocacy services will I receive as a member?

WA Charters is the primary advocacy group representing charter schools in Washington State. Members will receive invitations to convenings to discuss statewide charter school advocacy priorities and an Advocacy Update Newsletter about the work WA Charters and its partners are doing on behalf of the sector.

How much of a savings does a conference discount offer?

Although the cost of the conference fluctuates slightly each year, the savings to members is significant, and members can apply the member discount to an unlimited number of registrations from their organization.

How long does membership last?

Membership is annual and expires one year from date of payment. Membership must be renewed in order to continue services.

What happens if my organization sponsors the conference?

If your organization sponsors the conference, your membership fee for the following year will be waived.

What is BUYQ?

BUYQ powers the National Charter Schools Group Purchasing Program, which harnesses the collective buying power of thousands of charter schools across the country to negotiate deep savings and other benefits exclusive to charter schools through an open, competitive RFP process. BUYQ vendors include Staples, CDW-G, Hertz Furniture, and S&S Worldwide. Anytime you make a purchase from a BUYQ vendor, a portion of your sale is also returned to WA Charters to support our efforts to build and sustain Washington’s charter school community.

What is the Special Education Collaborative?

The SpEd collaborative brings together a diverse group of stakeholders in the field of Special Education and acts as a full partner to member schools, offering robust, centralized expertise and supports that promote compliant, effective, and innovative practices for meeting the needs of students faced with barriers to academic achievement, including those with disabilities. The collaborative offers technical assistance and professional development to its members.

What other benefits will I get as a WA Charters Member?

We are constantly adding new benefits and future additions may include Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) for school leaders and operations leaders, discounts to additional products and services, and professional development workshops.
