Our Statement on the Trump Administration’s Family Separation Policy and Executive Order

Today, it has been reported that the President will issue an executive order ending family separation on the US/Mexico border, the direct result of a policy put into place by the Trump administration.

The damage already done to families and children is irreparable and indefensible. More than 2,000 children have been forcefully removed from their families as a result of the Trump Administration’s enforcement of its ‘zero-tolerance’ policy.

At WA Charters, we fight for the right of students and families to ensure their access to a high-quality education, to remind them they are loved, and to keep them safe; as Americans, we fight for decency and basic human rights, for everyone.

So today, on the 18th anniversary of World Refugee day, we stand with our immigrant friends and families, and honor the courage of parents fighting for a better life for their families.

As our partners, supporters, families, and friends, we are calling on you to act. Each of us must find our own way to stand up in the face of injustice in solidarity with all families.

To live our organization’s core values of community, diversity, partnership, innovation, and excellence, we will speak out out the dehumanizing of any person—and we will continue to work against policies and systems that acts in opposition of those values.
