SEATTLE — Ten organizations are the first to say they plan to apply to open charter schools in Washington state.

Tuesday is the deadline for filing a notice of intent to apply an application with the statewide Charter School Commission, so more organizations may turn in their notices early next week.

The 10 so far include:
–Three proposals for Yakima, including an arts high school, a dual-language elementary and an alternative school that will start in the high school grades;

— A well known charter operator from California that would like to open a middle school in Tacoma;

–Science and technology focused proposals for Enunclaw, Seattle, Toppenish and Highline.

–An organization that would like to open a grade school for highly capable students in the Spokane area.

–A group that wants to open a military school for middle and high school students in Grays Harbor or another nearby county.
