Op-ed: “Why we are betting on Washington State charters”

Jun 6, 2014 | Blog, Updates

Today, the Thomas B. Fordham Institute’s Flypaper blog published an opinion piece that I co-wrote with Terry Ryan, president of the Idaho Charter School Network.

As part of their “Charter School Policy Wonk-a-Thon,” Fordham challenged a number of prominent scholars, practitioners and policy analysts to write about why some charter sectors outpace their local district schools while others are falling behind.

Here in Washington State, we’ve already witnessed tremendous momentum in our charter sector.  The first of the eight approved public charters will soon open their doors and letters of intent for the next round of our future charter starters will arrive next week.

Washington is poised to be a leader in the school reform and charter school arenas.  We appreciate the opportunity to share our successes to date on Fordham’s blog today.
