KairosPDX, a Portland, Oregon nonprofit, is hiring a school leader for Kairos Learning Academy, its K-5 charter public school in North Portland with a mission of closing the racial achievement gap.

  • Creating a positive environment by enforcing discipline to maintain safety as well as staff morale;
  • Ensuring logistics and schedule of the school day runs smoothly and supports instructional excellence;
  • Work with a team of colleagues and families to provide a nurturing and positive climate that encourages student responsibility and intrinsic motivation;
  • Manage school budget and ordering of materials;
  • Oversee school compliance and processes including TSPC, PPS and ODE;
  • Oversee student data and records;
  • Oversee school safety emergency and procedures ensuring onsite building safety;
  • Discipline students in a fair and consistent manner, using clear routines and expectations as well as school approved behavior support techniques;
  • Support the high expectations for student behavior at KairosPDX through:
  • Collaborating with school leadership to implement mission consistent systems, strategies and language for cultivating behavior support/change;
  • Supervising, designing, coordinating and implementing behavior and academic supports;
  • Overseeing coordination of academic and behavioral data collection and analysis;
  • Overseeing development and supporting systems to create consistency in the Student Support Team process;
  • Overseeing Kairos staff collaborating with PPS school Psychiatrist to coordinate Student Support Team processes and systems;
  • Overseeing Kairos staff collaboration with the PPS Special Education team on specific instruction and strategies for children on Individualized Education Plans;
  • Collaborate with Counseling and support staff regarding specific student needs and current social-emotional planning;
  • Collaborate with leadership staff to train in and implement strategies and common language including: Collaborative Problem Solving, Restorative Practices and Non-violent Crisis Intervention;
  • Collaborate with behavior support team including debrief protocols and strategy sessions to build skill;
  • Utilize PPS’ Synergy system and oversee the maintenance of attendance and discipline records/reports;
  • Oversee scheduling of instructional staff including leave request processing;
  • Participate in continuous improvement practices including observation, evaluation, feedback and reflection;
  • Participate in professional development to facilitate growth of each student, staff member and the organization overall;
  • Oversee the planning and supervising of field trips (both local trips and overnight);
  • Building opening and closing as needed/

 Instructional Manager Qualifications 

  • Masters required;
  • Administration experience preferred;
  • At least three years of successful school experience with children ages 5 to 10;
  • Experience managing daily logistics;
  • Experience to manage budget and materials school wide;
  • Ability to track multiple data points;
  • Curriculum knowledge (workshop model; inquiry based);
  • Classroom experience that supported school improvement plans that resulted in improved academic performance for students, gains in closing the achievement gap;
  • At least one or two years relevant experience working with children from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds;
  • Actively participated in professional development, both as part of the school activities and on your own;
  • Trained in applied behavior analysis preferred;
  • Trained in nonviolent crisis intervention preferred;
  • Trained non-neurotypical neuroscience;
  • Effective interpersonal skills in managing and interacting with diverse groups of community members;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with the neuroscience behind mindfulness and sensory processing
  • Training in early education and/or human development preferred
  • Willingness to learn about and adapt to KairosPDX culture
  • Open to learning and practicing a constructivist approach
  • Commitment to culturally relevant practices
  • Commitment to professional reflection and ongoing collaboration
  • Share KairosPDX’s stance that excellent public education is a civil right of all children and families
  • Possess a passion for helping each child reach his or her social, emotional and academic potential including a commitment to differentiated instruction and ongoing assessment
  • Current Food Handlers Card
  • CPR First Aid Certificate (cost paid by applicant)
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: Dependent on qualifications
