The Washington State Charter Schools Association issued a statement following SOAR Academy’s announcement that they will cease operations in June 2019:
“We want to recognize the many positive contributions that SOAR Academy has made for its students, families, and the Tacoma community since it launched in 2015. We acknowledge that this decision will have a significant impact on SOAR families; so many students were well-served by SOAR’s committed educators and its fully inclusive, arts-focused model. Nonetheless, we recognize that without sufficient resources to best serve students in the long-term, the SOAR board has made this decision in the best interest of students, and we stand ready to support SOAR and its families during this transition. We remain deeply committed to the growth of a high-quality charter public school sector, and will continue to support our state’s charter public schools to deliver on their promise of excellent educational outcomes for Washington kids.”
