Parent Advocacy Award Recipient — Yolanda

Congratulations to charter public school parent Yolanda Fontenot, who in October 2025 received the Outstanding Parent Advocacy Award from WA Charters. These annual awards offer an opportunity to shine a light on the incredible parents, students, alumni, and leaders in our community who play an instrumental role in advocating for equitable public education.

This past June, Yolanda’s son graduated as part of the last class of Summit Olympus. During her son’s time there, Yolanda worked tirelessly to strengthen parent engagement and help families feel seen, heard, and creating space for them to connect and support one another. In Tacoma Public Schools, where her younger children now attend, she continues to lead and uplift; running another active parent group, helping families with uniforms, and being a “squad mom” to kids who need a little extra guidance or care.

From mentoring teens and supporting immigrant families, to sharing topsoil and garden tips with her neighbors, Yolanda brings people together wherever she goes. She reminds us that community advocacy isn’t just about policy, it’s about compassion, connection, and action.

We are honored to celebrate Yolanda with this award, a true community advocate and champion for every child.
