WA Charters seeks peer reviewers for CSP subgrant competition – summer 2020

WA Charters is seeking peer reviewers with experience in the charter public school sector to serve on an Application Review Team for the Charter School Program subgrant process. The Washington State Charter Schools Association (WA Charters) holds the federal Charter Schools Program (CSP) grant. 90 percent of grant funds are dedicated to subgrants to support the growth and expansion of charter public schools in Washington state. Subgrant applications will be reviewed by an independent panel of reviewers who will make award recommendations to WA Charters CSP staff.

Who: Reviewers should have experience with operating a charter public school, school finance or law, CSP or other grant administration, and/or general school or district leadership. Each reviewer may be asked to review up to 10 applications during the summer of 2020.

What: Peer reviewers will independently read, score, and provide timely, written comments, supported by the application scoring rubric and relevant laws and regulations. They will participate in a virtual training session and follow up calls as needed. The review of each application will be conducted using cloud-based software and no in-person meetings are required.

Requirements:

  • Must have a computer, reliable internet, phone, and printer
  • Must have availability during both of these two-week periods of review (June 19-July 3 and Aug 28-Sept 11)
  • Must be available for the Peer Reviewer Training on June 2, 2020, at 10:00 am PST
  • Must not have any real or perceived conflict of interest in any of the schools being awarded the sub-grant (must complete a conflict-of-interest form if selected)

Compensation: Reviewers will be compensated $500 for each application reviewed and $150 to attend the virtual training session.

Application: To be considered as a peer reviewer, email your resume along with 2-3 statements of your interest in participating to Jeannette Vaughn at cspgrant@wacharters.wpenginepowered.com.
