Rooted School Vancouver, a new local charter public school serving the Vancouver community, is actively enrolling students in preparation for its inaugural Ninth Graders who will start classes beginning in August 2023. As a charter public school in Washington, Rooted School is free, non-sectarian and accessible-to-all.
As reported in The Columbian regarding Rooted School’s enrollment campaign, the school follows a student-centered model that includes self-directed learning pathways, project-based learning experiences, and industry-based internships and credentials geared toward student success beyond the classroom. Rooted School’s unique approach combines intentional coaching and mentorship to help students achieve academic success and prepare for high-paying careers.
Families who are interested in enrolling their students at Rooted School (located at 10401 NE Fourth Plain Blvd, Vancouver, WA 98662) are encouraged to visit the school’s enrollment website and the school’s Grand Opening Celebration on August 3 @ 10AM at 10401 NE Fourth Plain Blvd, Vancouver, WA 98662.
“Meeting the talent needs of our region tomorrow starts by giving students experience with job opportunities today,” said Jonathan Johnson, founder and CEO of Rooted School.
“I’m excited to work with forward-thinking teams of industry and community leaders to provide a school choice that leads young people to think about their lives more broadly, to invest in their skills, and provide expanded opportunities in the region. Thanks to the teams of people making this possible and our inaugural families for going on this journey with us.”
Led by a local board, Rooted School Vancouver exists to provide students with personal pathways to financial freedom. Some students will come to school with financial freedom already in hand, others will come without. Rooted School works to teach all students how to learn in an ever-changing world, develop skill sets in the most in-demand job sectors and create technology that transforms communities. As a public school, Rooted School teachers are subject to the same certification standards as all public schools in Washington State and in exchange for stricter public oversight is granted additional flexibility for how to best ensure that each student’s unique needs are supported with equal opportunity.
Rooted School Vancouver was authorized earlier this year by the Washington State Charter School Commission and will open its doors for the 2023-24 school year serving a Ninth Grade class. Next year, the school will serve a Ninth Grade and Tenth Grade class and add a new class each year until it is serving students in the Ninth through Twelfth grades.
