SIA – Associate Principal (Grades 6-12)

Spokane International Academy is seeking a passionate and experienced Associate Principal for Grades 6-12.  The Associate Principal (Grades 6-12) is a key administrative team member, overseeing both teachers and students. This role demands a proficient multitasker with strong leadership skills, capable of managing teachers and students. This comprehensive role requires a proactive and efficient leader dedicated to maintaining a safe, compliant, and well-functioning educational environment. The ideal candidate must believe that all young people deserve access to a rigorous and equitable education that values their individual growth. 

Days per Year: 215

Hours per Day: 8

Projected Typical Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm

Salary: $117,500 – $127,750

Major Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties

  • Perform administrative and instructional tasks the Head of School (HOS) assigns, including assuming the principal’s responsibilities in their absence.
  • Lead staff, students, and the community in achieving building-level goals for diverse student success.
  • Foster effective staff communication, resolve conflicts and collaborate with administrators for program success.
  • Establish culturally responsive standard operating procedures and promote a school climate aligned with shared values, ensuring student well-being.

Instructional and Academic Leadership

  • Assist in and demonstrate knowledge of staff supervision, evaluation (Danielson Framework/Get Better Faster), observation, and professional development.
  • Assess the strength of individual academic programs by using student achievement results and growth data, and lead the process of building intervention plans in response to data collected. Assist in the process of facilitating changes that lead to specific and measurable positive outcomes.
  • Work with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to ensure a high-quality, rigorous education for all students.
  • Participate in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings.


  • Maintains high expectations for staff and student conduct.
  • Works with the Head of School to develop a positive school culture and implement PBIS tiered response to intervention.
  • Administer responses to student discipline, emphasizing restoration through a trauma-informed lens.
  • Work with parents and school staff to develop effective behavior management plans, and track the progress of these interventions in partnership with other school staff.


  • Assists in the daily operation of the school in partnership with administration and on-site operations staff.

Staff Recruitment, Selection, and Dismissal

  • Participate in various aspects of staff management, including screening, selection, orientation, training, assignment, reassignment, and end of employment for school staff and staffing for extracurricular programs.

Community Partnership

  • Support the efforts of the Community Advisory Team (Parent Group) and attend CAT meetings monthly.
  • Develop, participate, and nurture community relationships to maintain a positive image of the school in the community.
  • Promote effective communication between parents and the school, and encourage parent visits and involvement in decision-making as appropriate.
  • Establish and make use of working relationships with peer schools, and participate in community affairs that promote the school’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Washington State Principal’s credential, or the ability to obtain one by 8/1/2024.
  • 3-5 years of successful credentialed experience, including 3-5 years in teaching.
  • Master’s degree in Educational Administration, school administration, or leadership.
  • Demonstrated achievement in leading the improvement of school learning, curriculum, and instruction; The ability to lead, engage with, motivate, and promote innovation within school teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in computer skills, including data entry and database management software.
  • Experience in charter schools and/or urban education.
  • Ability to communicate in a language other than English.
